Pump Jacks, the Thump and a Century of Homes
Luling is a Caldwell County town on the San Marcos River, south of Lockhart. Oil turned it into a boomtown in the 1920s, and pump jacks still nod around town, many of them painted as folk art. Every summer the Watermelon Thump brings the whole town out, and its barbecue draws people from all over Texas.
Many Luling homes are older, from bungalows near downtown to farmhouses out in the county. Decades of living build up a bio-load: the tiny particles that collect in the air, on surfaces and inside the HVAC system. What Is Your Home's Bio-Load? has the longer version.
Walking Through an Older Luling Home, Room by Room
The kitchen. Years of cooking leave a film on cabinet tops and range hoods, and in a barbecue town a little smoke drifts in too. Our kitchen and cooking guide has easy tips.
The closets. Small closets with no airflow can make clothes and linens smell stale.
The drains. Tubs and sinks that sit unused can let sewer smells in once their traps dry out. See our drains and dry traps guide.
The ductwork. Central air added to an older home may run through a tight attic, and those ducts may never have been cleaned out.
What Happens When the Fog Goes In?
It drifts through every room and the ducts, then leaves the house dry. Pure Maintenance Austin's patented VaPURE system makes droplets about 7 microns across, and positive pressure carries them into every room, closet, crack and crevice and through the HVAC ductwork. Along the way the fog helps reduce the bio-load and neutralize odors on hard, non-porous surfaces, and it temporarily reduces airborne particulates as it settles. A surface protectant goes on after it, the same way.
Nothing gets soaked, so wood floors and old furniture stay as they are. The job takes one day, and after a 2 to 4 hour air-out you're back inside the same day.

Luling Questions
Will it help with smoker smell in the house?
On hard, non-porous surfaces like counters, cabinets and tile, the dry fog helps neutralize smoke odor. Smoke that has soaked into curtains, carpet or drywall may also need cleaning or sealing, and our Odor Treatment adds an ozone step, with the home kept empty up to 48 hours. We'll be honest about what to expect.
Is it gentle enough for an old house?
Yes. The fog is dry, so wood, plaster and fabric don't get soaked. Mention anything special, like an heirloom piece, when we talk.
