About the Treatment
What is the whole-home dry fog treatment?
It is a two-step treatment that sends a very fine dry fog into every room, closet, crack and crevice, plus the HVAC ducts. On treated hard, non-porous surfaces it helps control odor-causing microbes and neutralizes odors, and it helps reduce the bio-load: the tiny particles and microbes that build up on surfaces and in the HVAC system. As the fog settles, it also temporarily reduces airborne particulates. Step two adds a surface protectant. Learn how it works.
How long does it take?
The dry fog treatment is done in one day. Larger homes can take longer, and we'll give you a time estimate at your free phone consultation.
Do we need to leave the house?
Yes. People and pets should be out of the home for the whole treatment. Afterward, the home stays empty for 2 to 4 hours to air out, then you come back the same day. We'll tell you when it's time. Our Odor Treatment is different: the home stays empty for up to 48 hours.
What about pets and plants?
All pets need to leave, including birds, reptiles and small animals in cages. Cover fish tanks and turn off air pumps during the treatment. Houseplants can usually stay, but move any you really care about outside or to a friend's place to be safe. For an Odor Treatment, live plants and fish tanks must come out or be protected.
Will things get wet?
No. The droplets are about 7 microns, so small they float instead of falling. Surfaces, fabrics and papers stay dry.
Will it smell afterward?
You may notice a light vinegar smell when you get home. That comes from the solution breaking down into water, oxygen and vinegar. It usually fades within a day. Opening a few windows helps.
Is it safe for electronics?
Because the fog is dry, TVs, computers and other electronics can usually stay where they are. Your technician may ask you to cover or unplug a few sensitive items. For an Odor Treatment, sensitive electronics need to come out or be protected.
What do we need to do before the treatment?
Run your AC down to 68 degrees before we arrive to lower indoor humidity. Open drawers, closets and cabinets, put food away in sealed containers or the fridge, and plan to be out for the day. Our prep checklist covers every step.
What happens with the HVAC?
The HVAC system is part of the treatment. The team will set your thermostat and fan the way the treatment needs, so the fog travels through the system and ductwork. Please leave it as they set it until they say otherwise.
Do you test the air?
We don't perform or collect lab testing. If you'd like your air tested, or you've had a leak or visible growth, start with an independent state-licensed professional.
How often should we do it?
Many homeowners treat once, then again when they want a fresh start, such as after a move, a remodel or a long allergy season. Good habits afterward make a big difference. See After Your Treatment.
How It Compares
How is it different from a portable air filter?
A portable air filter catches particles from the air that passes through it in one room. It doesn't reach surfaces, closets or ducts. The dry fog treatment reaches every room, closet, crack and crevice and the HVAC ducts at once, and it helps settle airborne particles as the fog settles. Many families use both.
How is it different from duct cleaning?
Duct cleaning brushes and vacuums dust and debris out of the ducts. Our treatment reaches the hard surfaces of the whole home, including inside the ducts, but it doesn't scrub out heavy debris. If your ducts need cleaning or repair, Gold Eagle Services can help.
Is this the same as an ozone treatment?
Not the dry fog treatment. It doesn't use ozone: it uses a hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid solution that breaks down into water, oxygen and vinegar, followed by a surface protectant. For persistent odors like smoke or pets, our separate Odor Treatment adds an ozone shock treatment after the dry fog, only in an empty home. The ozone runs for up to 48 hours with no people or pets inside, live plants, fish tanks and sensitive electronics come out or are protected, and we air the home out before you return.
Does it fix leaks?
No. It is not a repair. Leaks and damaged materials need to be fixed first. After repairs are done, the treatment can be a good next step.
Who should I call about mold in my AC or ductwork?
Call our sister company Gold Eagle Services, a licensed Texas mold remediation company that handles HVAC mold, at 512-489-4653. For mold anywhere else in the home, contact an independent state-licensed mold assessor or remediation company. We don't perform or collect lab testing.
Cost, Area and Hours
How much does it cost?
It depends mostly on the size of your home. We start with a free phone consultation: a Comfort Advisor calls, learns what's going on in the home and sends a written quote based on square footage before any work begins.
What areas do you serve?
All of Central Texas, out to College Station (about 2.5 hours), including Round Rock, Georgetown, San Marcos, Bastrop and Marble Falls. If you're nearby and don't see your town, give us a call.
What are your hours?
Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm.
