Monument Hill, the Square and the Gravel Roads Beyond
La Grange, the Fayette County seat, sits on the Colorado River about halfway between Austin and Houston. The courthouse square anchors the town, and Monument Hill looks out over the river valley. Past the city limits the county rolls into pastures, ranches and small farms, with Round Top and its antique shows just up the road.
Plenty of homes here aren't in subdivisions at all. They're farmhouses kept in the family for generations, ranch homes at the end of a gravel road, or weekend places for city folks who come out to slow down. Living like that shapes the air inside in ways a town lot doesn't.
What Does Country Life Track Into the House?
Dust from roads and fields. Gravel and caliche roads, hay fields and dry pastures kick up fine dust. It rides in through doors, windows, window units and the HVAC return, then settles in carpet and ducts.
Animals, inside and out. Barn cats, ranch dogs, horses and cattle are part of daily life. Boots, work clothes and pets carry dander, hay and barnyard smells into the house. Our pet odors guide covers where those smells hide.
Old farmhouses. Many older homes around La Grange got central air long after they were built, with ductwork tucked wherever it would fit. Deep closets, old wood and years of wood stove or fireplace use all hold on to odors.
Antiques and heirlooms. Old furniture, trunks and quilts, some of them Round Top finds, are treasures, and they can carry a musty, stored-away smell into the room.
Homes that sit empty. A weekend place or a family homeplace opened only for holidays can turn stale fast in our humid climate. Read Closed-Up Homes and Vacation Homes for tips on keeping it fresh between visits.
All of this adds to your home's bio-load - the tiny particles and microbes that build up in the air, on surfaces and inside the HVAC over time.
Why Dry Fog Suits an Old Farmhouse
It reaches the whole house without wetting anything. Pure Maintenance Austin uses the patented Pure Maintenance VaPURE dry fog system. First, a very fine dry fog of a hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid solution fills the home, reaching every room, closet and the ductwork. Along the way it helps reduce the bio-load and neutralize odors on hard surfaces, and it later breaks down into water, oxygen and vinegar. Then a surface protectant goes on the same way.
The droplets are small enough to float, so they settle on surfaces without soaking old floors, fabrics or antiques. The treatment takes one day, farmhouse or weekend cabin. See our dry fog treatment page for the full story.
Setting Up a Consultation From Out in the County
It starts with a free phone call, so distance doesn't matter until treatment day. We're based in Austin, and La Grange is well within the area our crew drives to. We'll find a treatment day that works, including a weekend-home schedule when you or a caretaker can be there.
On the call, a team member asks about the whole house, including mudrooms, back porches that open into the house, closets and the HVAC system. We'll ask how the home is used, who lives there (people and animals) and where smells are strongest. A Comfort Advisor follows up with your options and a written quote based on square footage.
Questions From Fayette County
Our home is way out in the county. Will you still come?
In most cases, yes. We serve all of Central Texas, out to College Station (about 2.5 hours), and Fayette County is well inside that. Give us your address when you call and we'll confirm.
Will dust from the road just come right back?
Some outdoor dust will always find its way in. A treatment gives you a clean starting point. Good filters changed often, a mudroom or boot spot by the door and a dehumidifier that fits your home help keep things fresher longer.
Can you freshen up a family homeplace we're opening back up?
Yes. Old homes that have been closed up for a while are a good fit. If there's been a roof leak or water getting in, handle that first. We don't perform or collect lab testing. If you'd like your air tested, or you've had a leak or visible growth, start with an independent state-licensed professional.
