Hospital Shifts and Homes From Every Decade

Temple started as a Santa Fe railroad town, and today it's best known for its large medical community, with major hospitals and clinics that draw doctors, nurses, staff and patients from across Central Texas. Many people who live here work long or overnight shifts, which means a lot of off hours spent sleeping at home, often in daylight. The air in that house gets more of your time than most.

One thing to be clear on: our service isn't a medical treatment, and we don't make health promises. If you have health concerns, talk with your doctor. What we do is help your home's air feel and smell fresher.

Temple's housing covers a wide range:

  • Older neighborhoods near downtown, with homes from the early and mid-1900s, many updated over the years with central air and newer ducts.
  • Mid-century and 1970s-80s ranch homes, often on their original duct layout, with decades of use behind them.
  • Newer subdivisions on the west and south sides, built tight and energy-efficient, where smells from cooking, pets and new finishes have fewer ways out.

All of them share the same long Central Texas cooling season and muggy summers. Over time, the HVAC pulls in and recirculates dust, pollen, pet dander and odors. That buildup is what we call your home's bio-load: the tiny particles and microbes that collect in the air, on surfaces and inside the ductwork. Get the basics in What Is Your Home's Bio-Load?

Working Nights? Keeping a Daytime Bedroom Fresh

If you sleep while the sun is up, your bedroom does double duty. A few small changes help it feel fresher:

  • Keep the HVAC fan running long enough to move air through the house. Our guide to fan settings: on, auto or circulate explains the difference.
  • Change your filter on schedule, and choose one that fits your system.
  • Keep bedroom doors from sealing the room off completely, so air can return to the system.
  • Wash bedding and blackout curtains often, since they hold on to dust and odors.

What Happens During a Dry Fog Treatment?

Pure Maintenance Austin uses the patented VaPURE dry fog system in two steps. First, a very fine dry fog made from a hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid solution moves through every room, closet and the ductwork. It helps reduce the bio-load and neutralize odors on hard surfaces, and afterward breaks down into water, oxygen and vinegar. Second, a surface protectant goes on the same way.

The droplets are so fine that they float and settle without making things wet. It all happens in one day, which can fit between stretches of shifts. You can read the full process on our dry fog treatment page.

Scheduling Around a Shift

Temple is within our service area. The free consultation happens by phone, so you can take it on a day off, and our crew drives up from Austin on treatment day. We're glad to work around shift schedules when we can.

On the call, a team member asks where the air feels stuffy or smells off, and about your HVAC system, filter and returns. After that, a Comfort Advisor explains your options and sends you a written quote based on square footage, and you decide what fits.

Questions From Temple Homeowners

Can the treatment help with lingering smells from an older home?

It helps neutralize odors on hard, non-porous surfaces and travels through the ductwork, where old smells tend to hide, and it temporarily reduces airborne particulates as it settles. Good airflow and regular filter changes help keep things fresh afterward.

Is the treatment done with harsh chemicals?

The first step uses hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid, which break down into water, oxygen and vinegar. You may notice a light vinegar smell for a short time afterward. Your team member can walk you through the product details.

Do you work with homes that are being sold or rented?

Yes. A treatment between owners or tenants gives the next household a fresh start. See our guide for rental turnovers.
